Finally, God said: “Enough. I will send an angel who will kill all the first-borns in the house. Then they will fear and obey me.”
God did not want to hurt everybody though. Therefore he said: “Let everyone who trusts in me take the blood of a lamb and put it on their door frame.”

Exodus, chapter 12, verse 13
The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.
Then the angel went around. He looked on the doors and when there was the blood on the door frame, he didn’t kill anyone because they trusted God and obeyed him.
