In the morning, Steve ran out of bed and hurried to see if Ron was better. Ron was huddled in his pet bed and looked weird. Steve stroked him. He drew back his hand immediately. Ron was cold. He didn't move. Steve got scared and started crying.

He must be healed! He must, Steve thought. He ran to his father with Ron in his arms.

"Dad, we need to go to the vet, Ron's dead."

Daddy stroked Ron, he looked Steve in the eye, and said, "The veterinarian won't help."

"He must," Steve cried, "give him an injection and Ron will come to life."

"That's not how it works," Dad explained. "When someone dies, they can't come back to life."

"But Jesus came back to life!" Cried Steve.

Dad hugged Steve and Ron in his arms.

"You're right. The Lord Jesus came back to life. Jesus died because he had become a man and bore our sins himself. But he rose from the dead, because he was God, and he had defeated sin. Every human and animal dies once and never returns. We can't call Ron back. But we can trust Jesus, who overcame death.”
