God’s Plan
You too can pray the same way Ruth and Naomi did. God forgave them and prepared a wonderful plan for them.
Ruth, with Naomi, arrived in Bethlehem in the land of Israel. She knew nobody there and had no job to be able to earn money. It was harvest time and the farmers were gathering the crop. They hired a lot of people who were cutting the grain and tying it into bundles. As the reapers did it manually, some of it was always left on the ground. Poor people were allowed to come to fields and they would gather up any of the crop that had been missed. Ruth prayed and then God guided her to the field of a kind farmer called Boaz. He allowed her to have plenty of grain – enough for herself and Naomi.
While Ruth was gathering stalks of grain, Boaz was watching her and he fell in love with her. He married her and they had a little baby son called Obed. Ruth was no longer lonely in a foreign land.
Boaz and Ruth stayed in Bethlehem and many many years later, one of their descendants would be the Lord Jesus. Of course, the real Father of the Lord Jesus was God, but Ruth was the great-great-great-…-grandmother of Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus. What a privilege for Ruth, the woman who seemed to be so different from all the other people in Bethlehem! God chose her for this special honor rather than any of the other women living there at that time.
God’s Plan for You
Have you trusted in the Lord Jesus as your Savior and asked Him to forgive you your sins? If so, God has a wonderful plan for you. Not the same one that He had for Ruth, but something very special just for you. If other people seem to reject you or make fun of you because you are different from them in some way, remember that God loves you. He wants to be with you and He understands you perfectly because He made you. If someone hurts you, turn to God and whisper to Him, “Thank You that You love me and understand me. Thank You that, to You, I am very special.” The Lord Jesus can also help you to forgive and be kind to those who are unkind to you. And little by little He can change your situation.
