Christ is risen!

The Upper Room

The Jewish Passover

In Jerusalem people were getting ready for a very important Jewish holiday, The Passover.

1400 years prior to this, the Jews were slaves in Egypt. When Pharaoh refused to let them go free, God punished the Egyptians by sending terrible plagues over them. Eventually, God sent the angel of death to every house, and the eldest in that house was killed. The Jews were commanded to sacrifice a lamb and with his blood to sprinkle the upper threshold and the side pillars of the door. When the angel of death saw the blood, he passed on.

Every time the Jews celebrate Passover, they remember that night.

The Passover lamb also reminds us that one day, Christ, the promised Savior, came to die for us. He came to save us from our sin, just like the Passover lamb died so that the first born of the Jews would live.
