Peter scored an own goal

Peter has never played football very well. Not that he would be clumsy. He was quite good at running and he could do other things, but he just didn't enjoy football very much. That's why he only played it when he had to. For example, in today's PE class.
He was a defender, of course, because he was never allowed to attack. He tried to watch the ball, run against the opponent, take the ball, or at least interfere the opponent. But the attackers were much better. They always did something, and Peter was suddenly standing against a boy who didn't have the ball and didn't know what to do.
Only then came his moment. He ran against the opponent. The opponent looked around and Peter realized that he wanted to pass the ball. He quickly set his foot against the ball. The opponent kicked. The ball stopped at Peter's foot. The opponent did not expect it and kept running. Peter had the ball!
But what now? Soon someone would run up to him and take the ball. Peter had to pass the ball well. He knew how important it was. If he passed badly, it would be worse than if he did nothing. Who could he pass it to? Peter ran forward and was looking for teammates, but none was free. Then he felt that someone was running from behind. Come on. Where to kick it? The goalkeeper was free. He would know what to do with the ball. Peter kicked the ball. The ball made it to the goal. His opponent did not catch it. The goalkeeper was not looking! "Look!" Thought Peter, but the goalkeeper didn't see the ball, it flew past him. And he made a goal. The teacher whistled. He scored an own goal.
The score was now 2: 1 for the other team. And a minute till the end. Teammates swore, opponents laughed, but Peter knew how bad it was, he had really ruined it.
The match was over in a minute. Peter“s team had lost. Boys were furious. They threw their jerseys away and kicked the ball angrily. They lost because of the own goal. Almost everyone had made some nasty comments and called Peter names. But the teacher stopped them immediately. He had a speech to the boys about sportsmanship, and that mistakes happen. Peter didn't listen to him much. This was not a good day.
