In love

Love is not attraction

Sin upon sin

Although he was supposed to be at war, David was at home in his palace. Being on the roof, he sees a beautiful woman and the sexual desire awakens in him. He wants to find out more about her: who she is, who she belongs to. Even when he learns that she is the wife of one of his soldiers, he does not stop, but allows himself to be led by attraction, by the “love” that overwhelms him, and commands that the woman be brought to him.

David knew God's commandments very well and he knew that any relationship outside marriage is sin and God punishes sin. In his life, David sought to be pleasing to the Lord and keep the commandments, but this love at first sight that David chose to follow made him sin.

Once this sin is committed, the consequence arises and David learns that Bathsheba is pregnant. To cover up his sin David commits mistake after mistake. He's trying to hide the pregnancy by trying to get Uriah close to his wife. When this plan fails, he commits another sin by pushing Uriah to certain death in battle.

How do you think David could have avoided this situation?
