Moses came down from the mountain with Joshua. They could hear from a distance the sound of singing and shouting.

Joshua thought that there must be a battle, but Moses knew what was happening because God had already told him that the people were worshipping and singing to the golden calf. When they got close enough to see what was going on, they saw the people dancing and worshipping the calf.

Moses was so angry that he threw down the two tablets of stone that had the Ten Commandments on them and broke them.
