Mary, the mother of Jesus, and other friends watched Jesus on the cross. They were very sad.

Then it became very dark even though it was daytime. Jesus bled and died on the cross. Just before He died, He said, “It is finished.” He had done the special work God had for Him to do. He had died on the cross for your sins—the wrong things you think, say and do. The punishment for sin is to be away from God forever. Jesus took your punishment when He died on the cross.

After Jesus died they took His body off the cross and put it in a tomb. A tomb to is like a rock cave. They put a big stone in front of the cave opening to close it up.

Soldiers stood by the cave. They didn’t want anyone to take the body of Jesus. What happened to Jesus was sad . But on the third day Jesus came alive again! That was a happy day! Jesus is now in Heaven ruling as King.
