Have you had something sad happen to you? Maybe you lost your pet or your favorite toy got broken. Did you know that something very sad happened to Jesus too?

The people had a parade. They praised Jesus. They put down palm branches and let the young donkey walk on them.

Just a few days later soldiers came to the garden where Jesus was praying. They took Jesus away. They hurt Jesus and even put a crown made of thorns on His head. They laughed at Jesus and said mean things to Him.

Jesus did not fight back when they hurt him. They took Jesus away to crucify Him. That means they nailed Jesus to a cross.

While Jesus was on the cross, He didn’t get angry at the people who hurt him. He asked God the Father to forgive them.

Two other men were put on cross beside Jesus. These two men had done bad things. They were being punished for the bad things they had done. Had Jesus done anything wrong? No! He is the perfect Son of God. He always does what is right.

The man on one of the other crosses made fun of Jesus. He didn’t believe that Jesus was God. The man on the other cross believed in Jesus. Jesus said that man would be in God’s home that very day.
