The Welcomed Stranger
The sun was hot as the three women trudged along the stony road. The two young women were called Ruth and Orpah. They travelled with Naomi, their mother-in-law. They had never been that far. Ruth and Orpah were born in the land of Moab and they had never left their country before. It was Naomi who had lived many years in the land of Israel and now she was on her way home. She was already old and alone so Ruth and Orpah were accompanying her.
They had been walking for a while and there were tired. The Bible tells us that Naomi said to the two girls, “You have been very kind to me but now go back to the land of Moab. What would you do with me?”
Orpah kissed Naomi and turned back to her home and her friends. But Ruth said, “Wherever you go, I will go… Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God. Where you die, I will die” (Ruth chapter 1, verses 16 and 17).
Ruth wanted to be with Naomi, and go to her country.
But even more important, she trusted in Naomi’s God. He is the God who tells us about Himself in the Bible. Ruth also trusted in God who gives us life, is powerful, good and loves us.
This God loves you too. Even though you don’t love Him, you don’t trust in Him or you don‘t think Him important. He loves you, even though you have broken the commandments or laws He has given us in the Bible.
Look if you have ever broken the commandments of God!
Have you ever done that?
These things are called sins. Every person has committed a sin at some point. But even if you have disobeyed God, He loves you. So, you can trust in Him as Ruth did.
